Sometimes I am an asshole and like to show off temps. This, for us, is perfect. The best part is that after rested from the cast iron we just sliced it and ate it off the board…. Total SAVGE style.. I just love that part. No sides. Well, maybe that bottle was a side?

That’s Ruger D! He’s tired of your bullshit. This is the first year that he hasn’t been with us and we miss him. Everyone has a story about a good dog. Every dog was the best. That’s true. This was my waterfowl dog and he was a terrific asshole every time. He pissed a lot of folks off. He growled. He didn’t like to be touched sometimes. He definitely didn’t like to be moved off of the bed late at night when we were ready to sleep. BUT Ruger got every goddamn dead bird ever. Even on the Missouri River when I shouldn’t have sent him into that strong current. The best memory I have is that we shot a few birds and they hit that big current and I released him to retrieve. Stupid on my part… (hey, I was young and dumb back then), and I saw from a distance that he was struggling… almost drowning… so I fired up the boat and went after him. When I got close to him he gave me a look, similar to this one here, and I imagined him saying “get the fuck out of here, I got it”… anyway, I scooped him and the ducks up into the boat. The ride back I could feel his icy stare at me because I robbed him of an impossible retrieve. I know he felt that. Terrific competitor. I hope that he is in Gundogs heaven and someone is giving him sliced turkey (his favorite) and maybe from time to time he is thinking of me. Because, I sure am thinking of him. The old barn didn’t make it through the grass/wi

The old barn didn’t make it through the grass/wind fire. Oddly, and thankfully, somehow my pigeons whom occupy the bottom right side all lived. Farewell iconic old red barn. Thanks to the local fire departments who controlled the blaze… I was told they dumped upwards of 10k gallons of water to stop this fire. If they hadn’t have been here right at the moment this barn caught, the rest of our property definitely would have been destroyed. 50+ MPH wind. Drought conditions.
